Slitaz Core 20110329 Release

Hello everyone

Its been a long time coming but I’m finally going to release my slitaz iso. There are alot of things added to this iso that make it different. This is also the first mirror iso. This iso doesn’t have sources or packages in it cause it would talk to long upload or download. But it does have local-mirror script and repos for making the slitaz websites locally.

To turn local-mirror on in root type ‘local-mirror on’. By default it will use the local host ip for the websites. You can go to to test if its working since that domain name doesn’t exist on the net. Thats also the linux from scratch html book. Figure it will help with building packages.

local-mirror off will turn the local mirrors off. Make sure to exit web browser before doing this or you may still get the local mirror sites.

I also have a tank-only and mirror-only option. You can also use these sites on local lan by change the IP_ADDR variable to your network ip. There is also ROUTER_IP variable if your router ip is not so you can change it.

I have add dnsmasq support into iso for local-mirror. dnsmasq -d will allow you to see if your computer is pushing the websites on to the local lan right. You will have to add this to /etc/resolv.conf:

search slitaz.lan

domain slitaz.lan

nameserver $IP_ADDR

The $IP_ADDR in /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/local-mirror.conf should be the same ip.

I hope this explains the new local-mirror script.

root password is root

tux password is tux * I think tux doesn’t have a password anymore but I’m putting it here if find out it does.

Here is the iso, md5 and packages list.

Happy Hacking!

  1. WooHoo! First! First time ever anywhere. Oops, sorry about that, couldn’t resist. From the slitaz core desktop. Connected via wifi using an ath5k PC Card – after a bit of a struggle. The wireless connect applet only wanted to do WEP whereas WPA is required. Eventually broke through via the Control Box. Any particular reason for only including a few Intel wifi firmwares, not including my ipw2200? Hmmm, bit rate 1 Mb/s.

Frozen Bubble doesn’t seem to run. At cli got this –

    tux@slitaz:~$ tux@slitaz:~$ frozen-bubble
    -sh: tux@slitaz:~$: not found
    tux@slitaz:~$ Can’t locate in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.1
    2.3/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.12.3 /usr/lib/perl5/5.12.3/i686-linux /usr/lib/pe
    rl5/5.12.3 .) at /usr/bin/frozen-bubble line 65.
    > BEGIN failed–compilation aborted at /usr/bin/frozen-bubble line 65.

I don’t know what this means. Perhaps you do? Anyway, must sign off, it’s way too late.

  2. I live in Puerto Rico and use slitaz and Porteus which is a fork from slax. I also made a lixuxscripts I am downloading your iso right now.

  3. Anybody home at all, at all? Just thought I’d say on first running the live CD, I left it running for about 40 days before Firefox finally melted down, and I had to use the machine for other purposes. So all that work was of some use. Anything going on in the secret laboratory? Any more Arch forthcoming?

  4. Still alive? Why so quiet? Awaiting a new archlive iso from you…

  5. I have a question, in the this code won’t work with me:
    # Install all packages in /home/boot/packages. In live CD and
    # USB mode the option home= mounts the device on /home, so we
    # already have a boot directory with the Kernel and rootfs.
    if [ -d “/home/boot/packages” ]; then
    for pkg in /home/boot/packages/*.tazpkg
    tazpkg install $pkg
    fi ;;

I want to have the smallest base and then add what I need when I want them.

  6. hi.. where I can find more of this distribution? … documentation and isos.

  7. I sometimes use Slitaz as a fallback during emergencies (also use Puppy Linux). It’s a good idea for a *nix system to have local mirror support. This is especially true in a place of business, as the IT staff will most certainly want to test updates and fixes before releasing them to all the machines on the network. Oh, and plain Slitaz stuff can be found here:

    • @ PhoenixAndThor
Its good to see that there are other people that like my ideas for the source dvd. Its going to be a full mirror of slitaz main server named tank. Or at latest emulate it.

      @ Jenny – Perfume
You can good to for official slitaz isos. is where you can find docs on slitaz. My iso is very different then slitaz official ones. Its more like a custom version slax using slitaz.

      @ ralcocer
I never used that code before. Sorry.

  8. Can you please make live cd with xfce installation? TNX!

  9. I am using your latest iso and trying to re-masteri it with the slitaz modular script I get the following message:
mount: mounting aufs on /home/slitaz/repos/slitaz-modular/core/working/union failed: Invalid argument
and I get it twice, any comments.
